The Midterms: Beginning of the End for Trump (!) (?)

Read Time:3 Minute, 9 Second

I write this on Monday night, Nov 2. We all know what tomorrow is—when most likely you will read this. Nov 3, 2026 is  Election Day, also known as the Day That Marked the End of the Trump Era (he said with cautious optimism)..

Yes, I am aware of the embarrassing newspaper headlines back in 1948 about the Presidential election that were ready to go in 96 point bold type: Dewey Defeats Truman. They were dead wrong, and perhaps I will be too. But my headline is already written

Democrats Win Both Houses of Congress

Instead of sitting side by side with Dewey-Truman in the Journalism Hall of Shame, I’m feel certain that I will have the headline framed and put atop my mantelpiece. (I don’t have a mantelpiece, but you know what I mean.)

How do I know that this will happen? Did you see poor Donald today? He has gone around the country trying to get the Republican populace enthusiastic. In his typical egomaniacal way, he has told his audiences to imagine that he is on the ballot when they vote, not some crook or fool whose candidacy he championed.

And for once he is right—it is all about him. But even the uneducated know what they are paying for gas and groceries. They voted for the man who would keep us out of foreign wars, they voted for the man who would bring prices down. And they know that this schmuck has betrayed them and done just the opposite. So he can call those Democrats Communists, he can warn you against those lefties, but he can’t convince you that you should vote for the Trump Way of Life.

But back to poor Donald and today’s performance. He is no longer traveling around the country to close contests. Why? First, even the Great One gets tired. You can only go so long on Big Macs, KFC buckets, and Diet Coke. After all, the man is 80. But more so, they have told him to keep away. They have told him that beyond the shrinking sample who still love him, his presence is hurting more than helping among the locals.

So what does he do instead? He gathers a crowd (not as large as he would like) around the Lincoln Reflecting Pool and raves and on an about the non-existent vandals who attacked the project. He “jokes” that he is considering re-naming it in his honor, the Trump Reflecting Pool, believing it to be a great accomplishment, not a total embarrassment. In his growing madness, he has become obsessed with beautification and adornment. He is the President of Majestic Arches and Beautiful Golf Courses. And, of course, he barely ever gets around to mentioning the coming election. He plays the fool and rambles on, not realizing that even his loyal staff and confidantes recognize that what was once a figure who could inspire the unwashed  and lead them into battle at the Capitol is now a small man, to be pitied and tolerated rather than feared and followed.

He said, “…for some reason, the sitting president doesn’t win the midterms. But we gave this a very strong shot.” The man who has never ever lost an election, who challenges the 2020 result to this day, pretty much admitted defeat the day before the election. Don’t believe he won’t challenge every result. Don’t believe the people who work for him will come up with outrageous and unfathomable ways of attempting to deny each election.

But, Don, this was the beginning of the end, and I’d almost feel sorry for you–if I didn’t know what a terrible a man you are.
