A New Day

It’s Jan 20, 2021, 12:01 PM.

I haven’t looked out the window, but I just know that the sun is shining–brightly.

It was frigid out there just a few moments ago, but now I sense a feeling of warmth.

The polluted air which had choked my lungs, weighed down with selfishness and hatred, somehow seems to have cleared. Not only is the air more breathable, but the stench is gone. It’s been around for about four years now, but at this moment when I take a deep breath I inhale hope and harmony rather than lies and deceit.

It’s not simply that this day couldn’t come soon enough, but not that long ago I didn’t know if it would come at all. When I went to sleep on Nov 3rd, what’s-his-name had just won Ohio and Texas, and he was up by 120,000 votes in Pennsylvania. He led by 120,000 votes–nobody comes back from being 120,000 down. Michigan and Wisconsin weren’t looking good, and for God’s sake, winning Georgia wasn’t even imaginable.

Two weeks ago, I didn’t know if the election would ever be certified. The Mobster-in-Chief had invited the unwashed into town with the big lie, whipped them up to a fever pitch, and then sat back and watched as they sought out their elected officials to deliver a simple message: The election was rigged! We know it because what’s-his-name said it and he never lies. He won by a lot and we’re coming for anyone who disagrees, even Mike Pence.

But now the votes have been counted and certified, the patriots who broke down the doors, walked off with the lectern, put their feet up on the desk, and waved the Confederate flag are getting time to reflect on their beautiful acts of valor while sitting behind bars.

Whether I should feel great optimism is uncertain—time will tell. But I do know that this country could not have survived another four years of what’s-his-name. So today, at this moment, a weight has been lifted off my shoulders, off all of our shoulders. A decent man with decent values is in the Oval Office.

Right now, if nothing more than for just right now, I’m feeling pretty good.

Bye bye Frump. Go get em Joe.
