It would be funny if it weren’t sad but true: Civilians in Gaza are suffering, and the US has attempted to send shipments of aid to them regularly. A recent shipment, headed toward a newly opened border crossing, was attacked by a group of Israeli settlers before it reached the border, with the apparent goal of keeping it from the Arab citizenry. Once the shipment had been defended and the aid had finally passed the border, it was “intercepted and diverted” by—surprise, surprise—Hamas, whose purpose was take those supplies and use it for itself.
Is there not enough bad will in this world on all sides of the Middle East??

Every day when I check out the latest Trump headlines, I see someone choosing to “fact check” the most recent rantings of the Orange One. What is the purpose of fact-checking the utterances of someone who is unable to, unaware of, or uninteresting in speaking “facts” that bear any vague relationship to reality? I often wonder how much of this is accounted for by the man’s inability to understand and appreciate reality, or his narcissistic and megalomaniacal belief that when he says it, it becomes truth.
My recent favorite is the equivalence he has drawn between two things that sort of sound alike but actually have nothing to do with one another: The judge in the hush money trial has admonished Defendant Trump about attacking or attempting to intimidate witnesses, jurors, etc. This is called a gag order, and of course, Trump has largely disregarded it. But Trump explains to all those with IQs below 70, the ones who adore him and take his word as ultimate truth, that in fact the “gag order” means that he will not be allowed to testify (i.e., put the record straight) on this whole silly and illegitimate trial. Out of touch with reality, does the man misinterpret? Or, more likely, does he manipulate and deliberately distort? Let me fact check that.

Kristi Noem is the I-Love-Trump governor of South Dakota. I can’t decide if she is more stupid than she is cruel. Deciding that at 51 it was time to write a memoir, this glorious and celebrated political leader faced the question of what tidbits to include from such a rich and memorable life. Should she lie about meeting with Kim Jong Um or would it be better to focus on, let’s say, the killing of her dog? Well, assuring that few would pay any attention to the lies about her professional life, the good and noble Ms. Noem decided to include the heart-warming incident where she took the unruly 14 month old family dog out to the gravel pit and shot it. Yes, that must have been difficult for her, but no more difficult than having to shoot the family goat twice to assure that it had it had gone to its final resting place. Why in God’s name, with a choice of all sorts of truths and lies to include, would you want to trump-et to the world that you were a killer of family pets. Perhaps at some subconscious level she really didn’t want to be chosen as the Donald’s running mate. Or perhaps we’ll see pet-lover Trump telling the world that the dog was actually a vicious Democrat-trained killer, and that his hand-picked Veep was only doing to her pets what he would do to the hordes of invading violent, dangerous, illegal immigrants.
